This policy explains what SolarPanelsCost.com (“we”) collects, why, and what choices you have. Questions: Mark@SolarPanelsCost.com.
Using the calculator
The calculator does not ask for your name, email or phone number. To estimate solar production, our server looks up the approximate location (latitude and longitude) of the center of the ZIP code you enter and sends it, with the roof direction you choose, to the U.S. government PVWatts service run by the National Laboratory of the Rockies. We do not store your calculator inputs with anything that identifies you.
Quote requests
Quote requests are not open yet. When they are, and only if you choose to request quotes, we will store your name, email, optional phone number, ZIP code, state, monthly electric bill, the consent text you agreed to, the date, and a random visit ID. We will share this only with the company named on the form, so it can contact you about solar quotes. We do not sell your information to other companies. Requests are deleted automatically after one year.
Email signups
You can ask us to email you a price-drop alert, our Power Outage Ready checklist, or a copy of your calculator estimate. For these we store your email address, which signup you used, the product and its price at the time (for price alerts), the date, whether you’ve confirmed, and a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address used only to block spam. We never store your actual IP address.
Price alerts and the checklist start only after you click the confirmation link we email you. If you don’t confirm within 30 days, we delete your signup. A calculator estimate is a one-time email you request: we don’t keep your calculator inputs, we delete the record of it after 30 days, and we add you to our email list only if you tick the box for solar tips.
Every email has an unsubscribe link. After you unsubscribe, we keep only a note that your address unsubscribed, so we never email it again. When you sign up, the site also sends us a notice with your email address and signup type so we can help if something goes wrong. We don’t sell or share your email address.
Partner links
When you click a partner link, we record the time, the page you came from and a random click ID, and pass that ID to the partner so we can confirm referrals. We do not pass your name or contact details through partner links. The partner’s own privacy policy applies once you are on its site.
Analytics and cookies
We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit the site, which pages they read and how they use the calculator. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and collects information such as the pages you view, how you arrived at the site, your device and browser type, and your approximate location. We use these reports only to improve the site. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising, and we have turned off its optional data-sharing settings. You can read how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can opt out with Google’s browser add-on. Our calculator also stores a random visit ID in your browser for the current session only. We do not use advertising cookies.
Comments
If you leave a comment, we store the comment, your name, email and IP address to manage spam and display the comment.
